The multiplatinum rapper was hospitalized in Los Angeles on Friday and reps confirm he is "recovering." But a report that he was in a critical condition in a medically induced coma was vigorously denied.
"Wayne is alive and well," his close friend and business partner Mack Maine Tweeted. "we will be releasing an official statement shortly, but dont believe the nonsense about comas and tubes to breathe...that's false."
A rep for the rapper adds, "Lil' Wayne is doing well. Thanks for your concern."
Neither Maine nor the rep disclosed the medical issue with Wayne, 30, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. But a source says the rapper "had a seizure," and adds, "He's fine though."
According to TMZ, Wayne was rushed to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills on Tuesday after suffering multiple seizures, and by Friday was in the ICU in critical condition. The site also said he was in a medically induced coma hooked up to breathing tubes and "it doesn't look good."
Wayne has won four Grammy awards including best rap album for Tha Carter III in 2008. He is also known for founding Young Money Entertainment, a subsidiary of Cash Money, of which Maine is president.
Together they released seven No.1 albums. Young Money Entertainment also introduced Nicki Minaj and Drake.
He's due to release his 10th album, "I Am Not a Human Being," on March 26
