Family Demands Justice For Driver Killed by His Boss For Causing Him About Sh 400, 000) Loss That He Paid as Fine For Overloading.

Dar es Salaam. Police in Dar es Salaam are holding city businessman Hussein Jeta for shooting to death a driver of one of his trucks allegedly for causing him $200 (about Sh 400, 000) loss that he paid as fine for overloading.

 According to the deceased’s brother-in-law Samwel Mwakalobo, Mr Jeta who owns Tripple A Company shot David Kalangula, 34, twice after he accused him of neglect violating traffic rules that caused the police to fine him.

 “Mr Kalangula was driving from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Dar es Salaam and when he reached at a weigh bridges in DRC, he was fined $200 for overloading,” Mr Mwakalobo told The Citizen.

 Unaware of what will turn out to be his tragic fate, Mr Kalangula obeyed the law and paid the amount.

 The victim arrived in Dar es Salaam on Saturday and later on Tuesday around 6pm went to meet his boss Jeta at the company’s Mbagala KTM offices to give him a feedback of his trip to DRC.

 The in-law said after explaining to his boss on what he encountered during his trip, his boss in collaboration with three other people started beating him mercilessly before he draw a gun a shoot him to death.

 “Fellow drivers who were around when the incident happened informed me that some fellow drivers and a watchman held his hand tightly to allow Mr Jeta to attack him,” Mr Mwakalobo narrated.

He said Kalangula tried unsuccessful to escape beating before his boss finally decided to shoot him twice on his shoulder and stomach.

 “From the account of fellow employees who were there there is no way Mr Jeta said can claim the murder was not pre meditated…I don’t know how he can escape liability,” he noted.

 Mr Mwakalobo told the Citizen that other drivers told him that Mr Jeta had a record of mistreating his workers by beating them up and drag them to police.

 One of the drivers who talked to The Citizen on condition of anonymity said Mr Jet has in many incidents beaten and threaten to kill his employees, and called for police intervention.

 Mr Mwakalobo said his family has received the new of the death of their loved one with shock and was demanding justice

The body of the deceased who is survived by a widow Oliver Donatus and three children will be transported to his Mbarali town in Mbeya after postmortem.

“We are preparing to take our body currently preserved at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) to his Kibamba Shule home where the last respects would be paid before we travelled to Mbeya for burial,” he explained.    

The accused, Mr Jeta, who was arrested yesterday around 9pm near his office in Mbagala, is remanded at Chang’ombe police station, Temeke Regional Police Commander, Andrew Satta, confirmed.

“Investigations into the matter were still going on and the accused will be taken to court anytime we are done with preliminary investigations, the Temeke police boss said on telephone interview.

The transport services in the Dar es Salaam-Morogoro high way came to a standstill for seven hours yesterday after over drivers abandoned over 80 trucks at Misugusugu in Kibaha, Coast regiona in protest of the death of their colleague.

 The drivers said that allegation of Mr Jeta that Kalangula stole 300 litres of oil from his tanker was not the truth.

It took leaders of the association of truck drivers UWAMATA, the police and Coast regional police commander to temporarily end the strike.

They agreed that all truck belonging to Triple A should not be allowed to leave until after authorities deal with Mr Jeta within one week.
