Chadema Volunteers Charged for Falsifying Results

Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court on Friday granted bail to eight Chadema communications volunteers charged with publishing inaccurate presidential election results.

Resident Magistrate Respicius Mwijage granted the bail after agreeing with a submission from defense team stating that objection to bail filed by Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) does not mention that the interest and safety of the public would  be prejudiced if the accused were  granted bail.

Giving bail conditions, Magistrate Mwijage required each accused to secure two reliable sureties who have a letter from local government or recognised institution who will sign a bond of Sh5 million each.

The accused, including three foreigners were arraigned on Tuesday and charged with three counts including publishing accurate information regarding to the currently presidential election results.

They denied the charges and remanded after prosecution produced the certificate to object bail to the accused for public interest.

However, the advocate representing the accused, Peter Kibatala objects the certificate on the ground that the certificate has legal errors.

Kibatala told the court that, the certificate does not mention public interest as alleged by prosecution.

The accused are Mashinda Edwin Mtei, Julius Mwita, Frederick Eddie Fussi, Julius Mwonga Matei, Meshack Carlos Mlawa, Anisa Nicholas Rulanyaga, Jose Mavinga Nimi and Kim Hyunwook.
