President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally congratulated Tanzania's President John Magufuli for winning the disputed country's general elections two weeks ago.
Foreign Affairs ministry has sent a congratulatory letter to the Tanzanian High Commission in Nairobi to be forwarded to Magufuli.
Magufuli was declared winner six days ago.
"The Foreign Affairs ministry would appreciate if the letter is forwarded to its highest destination," the letter reads.
In a single page letter, the ministry conveys assurances of "highest consideration" to the Tanzanian embassy.
Uhuru becomes the first East Africa Community member states head to congratulate Magufuli for winning in the elections.
Magufuli's closest challenger and opposition leader Edward Lowassa (Chadema) rejected the results citing massive rigging.
The country's electoral commission annulled elections on semi-autonomous Zanzibar citing "violations of electoral law".
Lowassa enjoys massive support from the archipelago.
