When Jose Mourinho was sacked after losing nine of the 2015-16 season’s first 16 league games, many thought that tha could be the end of his career.
Actually, Jose Mourinho himself admitted that the December decision took him by surprise as no other club has ever fired him; it was a first for the 53-year-old Portuguese. A video emerged of him apparently sobbing along the Stamford Bridge corridors.
However, Mourinho was not to be in the cold for long as Louis van Gaal’s apparent inability to have his things in order at Manchester United is set to give him another great opportunity.
According to Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, Mourinho’s agent and his lawyers are working on a three-year contract with Manchester United that could make him the highest paid football club coach in the world.
“Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will earn £15.5 million a year when he takes over from Louis van Gaal this summer – more than the £15 million contract Manchester City have agreed with their new boss Pep Guardiola,” UK website Express reported on Thursday, February 11.
The said £46.5 million contract to end in 2019 would mean about £323,000 a week; significantly above his team captain and highest paid player Wayne Rooney who takes home £260,000-a-week.
Mourinho could remain jobless but still be among the top earners. If he opts not to sign a contract with any club, Chelsea would be forced to pay him £250,000-a-week for the remaining three-and-a-half years of his contract with them (£45.5million in total) as per their agreement.
Those who have worked with Mourinho have welcomed the said deal saying the he is best placed to tackle Pep Guardiola’s team in the 2016-2017 season.
