EXCLUSIVE: Kenya Airways Suspends Man Who Allegedly Leaked Chinese Flight Video At JKIA

Kenya’s national carrier Kenya Airways has suspended the man believed to be behind the viral video showing a Chinese plane landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Wednesday, February 26.

In the video, China Southern Airlines landed at the airport with the health practitioners responsible for clearance treating it with a no-show, presumably out of fear of the much-talked-about coronavirus.

The clip elicited reactions online netizens going irate on the relevant authorities for allowing the plane in without precautions against the spread of coronavirus.

The sharing of the video has now caused trouble for one Ali Gire whose employment at KQ has been halted to allow for investigations into his motive in sharing the video, and until the disciplinary team clears him that he can secure back his position at the carrier.

Through a letter initially sent to breakingnews.co.ke, Gire has been shortly dismissed to pave way for investigations into the incident – of him sharing the viral video.

“Following a report of video of China Southern Airlines Aircraft at JKIA and circulation of the video clip widely on social media on 26th February 2020, and your alleged involvement in the matter, it has been decided that you be suspended from duty,” the letter partly reads.

We cannot confirm if Ali was the one who recorded the video as it was sent anonymously. Gire will, however, be required to avail himself before the probe body, his manager or any of his seniors when the need for such arises.

“During the period of suspension, you will be required to avail yourself to the investigating body, your manager or any of other people in authority as and when required,” the letter reads on.

“You are therefore required to remain contactable and within easy reach during the period. Also note the suspension period will be on full salary,” the letter adds.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has criticized Kenya Airways for suspending Ali saying that he should have been promoted and his boss fired.

Lawyer Ekuru Aukot also criticized the suspension saying that Ali needs to be defended by all Kenyans.

"Someone get me Gire Ali’s contacts. Once I get to Nairobi, happy to look for him. He needs to be defended by all Kenyans for the dangers of #coronavirusInkenya are dire! They threaten 48 million Kenyans currently relying on a weak health system "Ekuru Aukot
