It was once said, “Often those that criticize others reveal what they themselves lack’. This is very true with US democracy in their mission to promote the so called democracy in developed countries.
It was obvious that after the collapse of Berlin War and the Soviet Union, agents of western democracy and promoters of market capitalism were and are still very actively campaigning for adoption of western tailored democracy in all corners of the globe as a package of utopia, which the receiving nations are obliged to accept without question, no matter how it diverges from their norms and culture.
What is hypocritical about this is that, they find it convenient to ignore the fact that, although it took them more than a century for their democracy to consolidate, still that very same democracy is failing to protect the rights of their citizens, who are deemed, second class citizens, take the example of the killings of blacks in the US by police officers.
Their level of hypocrisy towards Africa is so high that they even forget that for democracy to work effectively in any country it has to be in synchronization with cultural requisites, you cannot export democracy like a bottle of Coca Cola, as Mwalimu Nyerere once warned.
This time around to some US Senators, it seems, The October Tanzanian election is more important to them than their November one. US Senator Jim Risch, in the capacity of Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has joined the critic’s club pointing finger to Tanzania questioning the independence of Tanzania Electoral Committee. Reason?! “Suspending the leading opposition candidate’s presidential campaign on bogus charges”, seriously Mr. Senator, is lying a bogus charge?!
May be in US, you can lie, jeopardize the safety and security of about 60 million peoples, put at risk the political stability of the nation, as you did in the above quoted Press Release, and get away with it, not in Tanzania my dear, lest you forget this is the land of Mwalimu Nyerere, your renowned Diplomat of all times, Dr. Henry Kissinger, knows him well, (I advise you go and lead the diplomatic encounter of Nyerere and Kissinger) you will understand what I mean.
You might be, as John the evangelical put it; "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies." No wonder you refer the lying charges of your preferred candidate as ‘bogus.’
But to us, we take it as seriously as tyranny, we have that African ethical values that gives us the guts to say, we cannot take that because it’s not Tanzania, and we don’t give a damn where it comes from, be it from The United States of America or The United States of America squared, we are a sovereign state we do what suits the interest of our people, you have Trump to deal with come November, leave us in peace.
