KAIZER CHIEFS IN SEARCH OF A NEW COACH
First, let’s paint the current picture. The team known as Amakhosi are nearing 10 seasons since they tasted champagne for winning a trophy. The most recent attempt ended in the first round of the Nedbank Cup, where Amakhosi fell to a lower division club.
It is, therefore, no surprise to find Chiefs searching for a new coach for next season.
Cavin Johnson is the current interim coach. He arrived at the club as a Head of Youth last May. Johnson became an emergency decision after Molefi Ntseki resigned in October 2023 after four wins, three draws and six defeats in 13 games.
“Following a meeting on Monday morning, Molefi Ntseki’s tenure as head coach of Kaizer Chiefs has ended amicably by mutual consent,” Chiefs announced on 23 October.
“Given the recent run of disappointing results, the parties agreed this was the best course of action under the prevailing circumstances.
“Cavin Johnson, who recently joined Chiefs as head of the youth development academy, will take over as the first team coach on an interim basis. Assistant coach Dillon Sheppard will retain his position under Johnson,” the note added.
Meanwhile, the seach for the next coach has been ongoing. A reported list of six candidates includes local and international coaches.
- Raul Caneda
- Pitso Mosimane
- Manqoba Mngqithi
- Vanderlei Luxemburgo
- Nasreddine Nabi
